Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and oversight of Schepens Eye Research Institute, a 501(c)3 independent non-profit research institute.
Governance refers to the activities of (1) setting an organization’s mission, (2) maintaining its focus on that mission, and (3) ensuring its ability to carry out that mission by attending to the organization’s present and future welfare.
The Board of Trustees consists of up to 35 members, and meets five times yearly. Its responsibilities include providing advice and counsel regarding the Institute's mission, participating in philanthropy and advocacy initiatives, serving on Board committees, and reviewing and endorsing reports from the Board committees and the Institute's administration as appropriate. In essence, the Board of Trustees assists the Institute to best meet its mission and realize its vision. In addition to their general responsibilities as Corporators, the Trustees have fiduciary and legal responsibilities for the Institute and will oversee its general operations, as carried out by the President/CEO.
