Research Story
As manager of the Schepens Proteomics Facility my role is the method development and application of proteomics for the use of the Institute as well as for the Boston research community. The facility comes equipped for apparatus for running isoelectric focusing and 2D polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Complimenting this we have state of the art image analysis software for differential display image analysis. For targeting specified proteins for identification the SERI proteomics facility is equipped with a spot picking robot, a liquid handling workstation and MALDI-TOF mass.
My particular area of interest is to develop methods of phosphoproteins isolation from cell compartments followed by 2D electrophoresis to determine weather aspects of signaling pathways can be studied using this methodology. Also another area of burgeoning scientific interest is the field of biomarkers. As this time the SERI proteomics facility is developing techniques for biomarker study.
