peli_news.jpgEli Peli, O.D., M.Sc. , Co-Director of Research and Senior Scientist at Schepens, has been awarded by the Otto Schade Prize by the Society for Information Display (SID).

Otto Schade was a TV pioneer at RCA labs where he was in charge of testing and improvement of image quality. He is credited with being the first person to apply engineering system analysis techniques to the analysis of the visual system. His use of the contrast sensitivity measurements are the basis for the work that dominated vision psychophysics for the last 40 -50 years and is the main tool applied in Dr. Peli's Vision Rehabiitation Lab .

Dr. Peli was chosen "for his many outstanding contributions to vision science and its application to image quality evaluation and enhancement, including pioneering efforts in improving display performance for populations with special visual needs, " according to the prize citation.

Dr. Peli will receive the award at a special presentation at the Society’s Awards Banquet on May 24, 2010 in Seattle.
