Study recruiting

Dr. Eli Peli’s Vision Rehabilitation Laboratory, develops and tests technologies to improve vision for visually impaired people.

Several projects are underway to develop aids for people with tunnel vision (Retinitis Pigmentosa - RP), central vision impairment (Age-related Macular Degeneration - AMD), and Hemianopia. It is our hope that the devices we are developing will aid in mobility, both during the day and at night, and enhance television viewing.

One of the most important phases of our research is subject trials and we often look for people in the Boston area who are willing to help. In addition to people who have macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, hemianopia, and impaired vision from other diseases, we also need normally sighted volunteers (usually over the age of 50) to serve as control subjects.

Some projects involve just a single visit to our laboratory, while others involve several visits. Visual acuity and field requirements vary for each study. We measure volunteer’s visual acuity and visual fields to determine which study would be appropriate.
